This course is a comprehensive introduction to survey methodology with a focus on applications in sociology and electoral behaviour studies. Beginning from a brief review of the theoretical underpinnings of survey research, students will consider research questions suitable for surveys. This will include questionnaire design and administration. The second part of the course will focus on sampling techniques; the understanding of which samples can be considered to be representative and how survey results can be interpreted. A large part of the course will be devoted to learning how to prepare and analyse data in SPSS - a widley used software package for data analysis. Throughout the course, students will write data analysis reports based on their own analysis of recent Australian and international surveys. |
