Course Description

A combination of intensive Thai language study, approved Thai university courses in language/literature and in a discipline, together with preparation for a study project. This work will be undertaken in Thailand under arrangements made between the ANU and Thai universities.

Learning Outcomes Desired learning outcomes for participants in THAI3550 (Year in Thailand). 
The main objectives pertain to further improving a) language ability, b) cultural competence, and c) ability to conduct field study. a) Students will greatly gain in language proficiency in both the active and receptive command aspects of Thai; b) gain substantial understanding of the host culture and ability to operate within that culture, and c) learn how to conduct field-work within the host culture and to effectively communicate their findings, both orally and in writing.
Indicative Assessment

Satisfy assessment requirements of the host institution. Subsidiary testing by Faculty may be required.

Workload

Requires enrolment for two semesters, totalling 48 units
Available only to students taking the Bachelor of Asian Studies (Thai) or Bachelor of Translation (Asian Region) degree.
