Program Requirements

The program structure comprises 14 core courses, which include those courses required for the Forest Sciences major. 

This allows one-third of the courses to be taken as electives, including from other Colleges, consistent with more general degree rules.

Program Requirements

The degree requires completion of at least 144 units, of which at least 96 units must be Science courses (as defined for the Bachelor of Science).  The program must include the following courses: 

(a) 18 units of the 1000-coded courses

  • ENVS1001 Resources, Environment & Society
  • ENVS1003 Environment & Society Research Methods
  • ENVS1004 Australia's Environment

(b) 36 units of the 2000-coded courses

  • ENVS2004 Weather, Climate & Fire
  • ENVS2007 Economics for the Environment
  • ENVS2009 Quantitative Environmental Research Methods
  • ENVS2010 Australia's Forests
  • ENVS2015 GIS & Spatial Analysis
  • ENVS2021 Vegetation & Soils: Landscape Co-evolution

(c) 24 units comprising the following courses

  • ENVS3008 Fire in the Environment
  • ENVS3014 Ecological Restoration & Management
  • ENVS3028 Environmental Policy
  • ENVS3041 Managing Forested Landscapes

(d) at least 6 units selected from

  • ENVS3007 Participatory Resource Management
  • ENVS3010 Independent Research Project
  • ENVS3039 Biodiversity Conservation in modified Landscapes
  • ENVS3040 Solving Complex Environmental Problems

The degree program must include at least 36 units of 3000-coded (Group C) courses.

The degree program may not include more than 60 units at first-year level (1000-coded courses). 

The maximum period for completion of the degree is 10 years from the date of first enrolment in the degree program; the 10 years includes periods of suspension.

The Bachelor of Science (Forest Sciences) with honours requires the completion of a further year of 48 units of honours research.
