Degree Structure

Candidates are required to complete 96 units over two years of full-time study, consisting of three annual courses, Residential and Field Placement, of 12 units, and the Bound Volume which will have 24 units.

The MAE is predominantly field-based, involving 18 months of field placement at a public health department or other institution and three months of intensive coursework at ANU.

Candidates are required to attend four intensive residential programs at NCEPH which cover specified areas of instruction. Attendance at residentials is mandatory and only in exceptional circumstances, and with the approval of the Delegated Authority, is absence permitted. During the placement the scholar will complete a number of core activities and at the end of the program each candidate will be required to submit for examination a Bound Volume which includes:

  • evidence that the activities in the course Field Placement have been completed;
  • a summary of the practical epidemiologic experience gained during the Placement.
