Book Design 2 introduces alternate approaches to producing artist’s books with a balance of book design theory, practical binding experience and self-directed project work.  A suite of books is produced which demonstrates an increased understanding of book structures and reveals an individual approach to course material. Occupation Health and Safety instruction is included.

Note: Places in this course are limited. Students are advised to enrol as early as possible.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

1. Consolidate technical skills and use of equipment, tools and technologies
2. Demonstrate creative exploration of materials
3. Apply concepts to the development of artist’s books
4. Show awareness of historical and theoretical contexts relevant to the course

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [LOs 1 – 4]

Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%). [LOs 1 – 4]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice and other research.
