Drawing 1 is a studio-based course that introduces students to basic skills, techniques and processes in the chosen discipline. Conceptual and thematic issues are addressed and occupational health and safety instruction is included. The program is structured around projects designed to introduce a range of drawing materials, formats, skills and processes. Students will be working with analytical and observational approaches to drawing.  

Note: Places in this course are limited. Students are advised to enrol as early as possible.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

1. Demonstrate an understanding of basic techniques, processes and equipment used in the area
2. Show the beginning of a creative exploration of materials
3. Show basic awareness of historical and theoretical contexts relevant to the course

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [LOs 1 – 3]

Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%). [LOs 1 – 3]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice and other research.
