Course Description

In Ceramics 6 an individual work project will be developed and implemented in response to critical discussion with staff and peers. Studio theory fosters each student’s ability to articulate a contextual framework for their developing practice, and to become responsible for the management of their self designed projects, including making, firing and finishing within a shared studio, in compliance with Workshop Occupational Health & Safety requirements.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course you should be able to

  1. Demonstrate skill in planning and execution of an independent project
  2. Develop, research and evaluate concepts and processes through creative, critical and reflective thinking
  3. Create a body of artwork suitable for exhibition
  4. Explain the concepts and techniques underpinning the works of art
  5. Demonstrate comprehensive awareness of relevant historical, critical and theoretical contexts
Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [LOs 1 – 5]

Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%). [LOs 1 – 5]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

Workload

12 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.
