Students develop an individual work proposal in consultation with academic staff. Experimental studio research informed by contemporary and/or historical precedents in woodworking, furniture-making, and the broader fields of visual art and design is developed over the semester.  Critical reflection is further encouraged through discussion with staff and peers. Studio theory consolidates each student's ability to articulate a contextual framework for their practice.  Students will develop, complete and exhibit a substantial body of work at the end of the semester.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

1. Demonstrate skill in planning and execution of an independent project
2. Develop, research and evaluate concepts and processes through creative, critical and reflective thinking
3. Create a body of artwork suitable for exhibition
4. Explain the concepts and techniques underpinning the works of art
5. Demonstrate comprehensive awareness of historical, critical and theoretical contexts of your work

Portfolio of studio work and visual diary (80%) (LOs 1-5)

Documentation (20%) (LOs 1,2, 4, 5) .

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

12 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 8 hours per week independent studio practice.
