Study of this course accompanies study of the ANU Bachelor Degree course ANTH1003. The teaching staff in the two courses will co-ordinate and co-operate with their teaching, and with the articulation of their expectations, their teaching strategies and the contents of the two courses. This course will use underpinning knowledge, skills, and tasks required in learning material from the ANU course ANTH1003 to support the students in their learning and assessment in that Bachelor Degree course. The course will extend and explain the content covered in ANTH1003, introducing theories and concepts that underpin the material being taught in ANTH1003, as well as providing more time to understand the ideas being presented in ANTH1003. The course will include additional reading material to that provided in ANTH1003, require additional assessment, which will in part be sub-components of the assessment required in the course ANTH1003, and will also develop and assess study and life skills necessary to succeed in study in an ANU Bachelor Degree program.

This course must be done at the same time as its Bachelor Degree parallel and is only available to students enrolled in the ANU Associate Degree.

On satisfying the requirements for this course the student will have the knowledge and skills to:

1. Successfully complete the course ANTH1003
2. Study other ANU undergraduate Bachelor courses
3. Understand the conceptual and practical underpinnings of the course ANTH1003

The assessment for this course will comprise of sub-components of the assessment for ANTH1003. This may include an annotated bibliography; a section of an essay, report or project; a draft of an essay, report or project; a draft page of notes and some timed tests. Items relating to understanding assessment such as the critique of a topic, the scheduling of preparation for exams and the presentation skills required in assessment items, may also be included. Assessment types may also include group and/or pair work, as well as individual activities. Presenting information orally may be assessed, as may participation in on-line academic discussion forums. Some courses may include time-based examinations.

4 contact hours per week and with the expectation of 6 hours independent study and exercises

This course and ANTH1003 are co-requisites. Associate Degree students can do this course only if enrolled in ANTH1003, and Associate Degree students enrolled in ANTH1003 must complete this course simultaneously.

Entry to the Associate Degree is not dependent on an ATAR score. However, success in study at ANU is underpinned by a complex range of abilities. Some of these can be best demonstrated by Year 12 equivalency; or by achievements in secondary school, or after that, such as employment, but including other endeavours.  Students who are unsure of their abilities are encouraged to speak with the course convenor. Assumed knowledge of specific content requirements is specified in the co-requisite ANU course, ANTH1003.
