Course Description

This course is designed for students wanting a deeper understanding of contemporary issues in auditing and assurance services. Prior knowledge of auditing is assumed.

Learning Outcomes

The course involves focused reading of research within the domain of auditing and assurance services. The precise reading areas are set for the semester based upon student interest and instructor guidance.

The course also serves to develop generic skills. The course helps to develop research skills in finding and assimilating previous research. The course helps to develop both oral and written communication skills.

A secondary aim is to develop understanding of research through a practical assignment requiring research to be completed.

This course is an advanced unit and all aspects of your work are expected to be of a high standard, both in academic content and quality of exposition. One of the keys to successful and less stressful progression through any course is thorough preparation and effective time management. Consciously plan your time, mindful of commitments and key submission dates.

Workload

Teaching for this course is likely to be in the format of one 3 hour seminar per week; however, enrolment numbers may dictate that it be run differently. Students will also be expected to put in up to 7 hours of their own time outside of class focusing on individual research.
