Course Subject Chemistry
Offered in First Semester, 2012
Unit Value 3 units
Course Description

The course covers the fundamentals of classical thermodynamics as applied to simple gases and liquids, polymers and their solutions, colliodal and microcellular fluids, as well as interfacial phenomena.  These thermogynamic principles are necessary to understand every-day phenomena including how trees feed nutrients to the canopies, modern stratagies of shampoo formulation, the interesting behaviour of "slime" or "silly-putty" toys, and the constraints on the work performance of engines, large and small, amongst other examples.  This course is intended for students who are interested in chemistry, materials and physics.
