Course Description

This course is the initial oral component of a one-year intensive beginners program in Modern Standard Chinese (Putonghua or Mandarin).

Learning Outcomes

Active knowledge of Chinese basic conversation. To introduce students to the Chinese sentence patterns, pragmatic norms in spoken Chinese.

Indicative Assessment

Periodic oral assignments (20%); In-class performance (20%); Listening tests (20%); Final oral examination (40%).

Workload

This course requires five hours of attendance per week.
