Course Description

This course is the initial written component of a one-year intensive beginners program in Modern Standard Chinese (Putonghua or Mandarin).

Learning Outcomes

Active knowledge of a limited set of Chinese characters.

Indicative Assessment

In-class performance (20%)

Weekly take-home writing exercises (20%)

Mid-semester examination (20%)

Final written examination (40%)
