Course Description

This course, with Modern Chinese 4, is designed to raise students’ competence in reading, writing and speaking through the use of a variety of approaches and media, including texts and audio and video recordings.

Learning Outcomes

Building a confident ability in spoken and written Chinese and an understanding of the culture and history of China

Indicative Assessment

Two oral tests totaling 20%, tutorial homework: 10%, tutorial weekly test: 10%, mid-semester test: 10%, lecture participation: 10%, final examination: 40%. Graduate students attend joint classes with undergraduates but may expect more rigorous assessment and additional assignment work, tailored to the graduate students’ interests.
