Course Description

The aim of this course is to use the internship experience to enable students to develop their software engineering skills and practice. Students will be placed in industry, working full-time and assessed for academic credit. The internships will be aligned with the aims of the software engineering program. Students will experience a real-life engineering workplace and understand how their software engineering and professional skills and knowledge can be utilised in industry. They will also be able to demonstrate functioning software engineering knowledge, both new and existing, and identify areas of further development for

Students who successfully complete this course will be given status for COMP3500 in Semester 2 and COMP4800.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Experience of applying existing software engineering knowledge in an industrial context.
  2. Ability to identify when new software engineering knowledge is required, and apply it.
  3. Ability to integrate existing and new technical knowledge for industrial application.
  4. Ability to demonstrate relevant Stage 2 Engineers Australia technical competencies.
  5. Understanding of lifelong learning processes through critical reflection.

Internship e-Portfolio (20%); Internship Report (50%); Industry Supervisor Report (20%); Internship interview and response to feedback (10%)
