Course Description

A project is designed to provide an insight into the conceptual and visual possibilities of video, to introduce students to basic video shooting and editing techniques and processes. Students will be required to participate in technical programs and demonstrations aimed to develop an understanding and proficiency in the use of video and editing equipment. A material list giving basic requirements will be issued at enrolment. Occupation Health and Safety instruction is included.

Note: Places in this course are limited. Students are advised to enrol as early as possible.

Learning Outcomes
  1. Demonstrate creative control of techniques, technologies and equipment used in digital media
  2. Demonstrate the creative analysis and exploration of materials and processes currently employed in video art
  3. Show a critical awareness and developed understanding of historical and theoretical contexts relevant to video art
  4. Exploit the characteristics of materials and processes in an individual and conceptually developed way
  5. Demonstrate understanding of the importance of critical and self-reflective practice
  6. Identify and develop personal topics for individual research 
  7. Demonstrate knowledge of OH & S requirements and procedures
Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of Studio Work (80%) [LO’s 1 - 7]

Visual Diary/Blog (20%). [1 - 7]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

Workload

4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice and other research.

Requisite Statement

Completion of 12 units chosen from: ARTV1020 - Figure & Life (6 units), ARTV1021 - Image and Object (6 units), ARTV1022 - Vision and Perception (6 units), ARTV1032 - Foundation Computer Studies (6 units), COMP1720 - Art & Interaction in New Media, DESA1020 - Figure & Life (6 units), DESA1021 - Precise Drawing/Model making (6 units), DESA1022 - Vision and Perception (6 units)
