Course Description

This course is designed to give an expansive insight into the conceptual and visual possibilities of video. Students will be required to participate in technical programs and demonstrations aimed at building proficiency in the use of compositing software and processes with particular reference to its application to a variety of different creative arts practices such as video, painting, photography or printmedia. Occupation Health and Safety instruction is included.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you should be able to:

  1. demonstrate competent creative control of techniques, technologies and equipment used in digital media
  2. demonstrate the competent creative analysis and exploration of materials and processes currently employed in digital media
  3. show a critical awareness and developed understanding of historical and theoretical contexts relevant to digital compositing
  4. exploit the characteristics of materials and processes in an individual and conceptually developed way
  5. demonstrate understanding of the importance of critical and self-reflective practice
  6. identify and develop personal topics for individual research
  7. comply with OH & S requirements and procedures
Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of Studio Work (80%) [LO’s 1 - 7]

Visual Diary/Blog (20%). [1 - 7]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

Workload

4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice and other research.
