Course Description

Either a new project is designed to further explore the conceptual and visual possibilities of the web as an art medium in its own right, or the project of Internet Art 2 is extended and developed. Relevant web technologies and computer-based techniques and processes are developed. Students will be required to participate in technical programs and demonstrations aimed at developing an understanding and proficiency in the use of web technology and digital media production and processes. Critical reflection is developed through discussion with staff and peers. Students may relate their project to their other studies. A material list giving basic requirements will be issued at enrolment, and occupational health and safety instruction is included.

 Note: Places in this course are limited. Students are advised to enrol as early as possible.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you should be able to:

  1. demonstrate an extended understanding of key concepts in internet art
  2. demonstrate increased skills in internet applications
  3. demonstrate an understanding of project-related techniques
  4. show understanding of internet art as a creative practice
  5. identify and develop personal topics for individual research
  6. comply with OH & S requirements and procedures
Indicative Assessment

Studio Project (80%) [LO’s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

Visual Diary/Blog (20%). [1, 2, 4, 6]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

Workload

4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice and other research.
