Course Description

This course builds on the knowledge and experience acquired in the previous course.

In this course, a project is designed to explore strategies and applications for sound in diverse contexts such as exhibitions, installations, public spaces and other media. The aim of this course is to practically consider the relation between sound and other art contexts. Occupation Health and Safety instruction is included.

Note: Places in this course are limited. Students are advised to enrol as early as possible.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you should be able to:

  1. demonstrate creative control of selected techniques, technologies and equipment used in sound art
  2. identify and develop personal topics for individual research
  3. critically analyse your sound art research project
  4. show a critical awareness of historical and theoretical contexts relevant to the area
  5. comply with OH & S requirements and procedures
Indicative Assessment

Studio Project (80%) [LO’s 1 - 5]

Visual Diary/Blog (20%). [1 - 5]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

Workload

4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice and other research.
