Course Description

CAD-Design-Create 1 is an elective that introduces students to basic skills, techniques and processes of computer-based design for 2D and 3D manufacturing. This course aims to prepare and present basic design concepts and materialize them with computer controlled fabrication processes. A series of given exercises will lead to student driven projects with a focus on individual interest. These projects will introduce progressively complex drawing, modelling and rendering methods. Conceptual and thematic issues are addressed. Occupational health and safety instruction is an integral part of this course.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of basic techniques and processes used in 2D and 3D computer aided design (CAD) and its application with digital fabrication
  2. Show the beginning of a creative exploration of the digital design environment and its application relevant to the design process.
  3. Show basic awareness of historical and theoretical contexts relevant to the course
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of OH & S requirements and procedures.
Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work (70%) Portfolio of studio work (70%) [LO’s 1 – 4]

Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%) [LO’s 1 – 4]

Participation (10%). [1 – 4]

Workload

4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice and other research.

ARTV1032 Foundation Computer Studies or Portfolio Review
