Course Description

In Major 4, studio investigation remains project-based with opportunities for students to explore individual areas of interest.  Higher level skills, techniques, processes and OHS principles are increasingly developed. Critical thinking and creative problem solving are encouraged and applied to individual design projects. Studio theory contextualizes student study within the broader arts and design context.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an increased level of skill with use of materials, processes, equipment and tools
  2. Plan and manage design-specific projects, independently or collaboratively
  3. Integrate concepts and processes
  4. Demonstrate awareness of historical and theoretical contexts for design practice
  5. Show awareness of OH & S requirements and procedures.
Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work (80%) and Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%). Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

Workload

12 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.
