| Course Description |
The course will introduce students to some theories of Imitation and Representation, and to some of the corresponding questions about 'truth' and value in literature (with some reference to other art forms). We shall explore some early conceptions of mimesis, including those of Plato, Aristotle, Sidney and Johnson, but the primary focus will be on literary theory in the modern period. |
