Course Description

Part time students are expected to complete a total of three courses and a sub-thesis of 12,000 - 15,000 words across four semesters. Two courses are normally completed in the first year; in the second a third course and sub-thesis is completed. 

In 2012 the course choices are:

Semester one:

  • Victorian novel then and now
  • The World, The Text, The Critic

Semester two:

  • Andrew Marvell
  • Authorship/Authority in 20th Century American Literature

Students are expected to consult with the Honours Adviser in December 2011 about their choice of courses and long essay topic, and are required to seek approval for their topic, and commence work on the essay as early in 2012 as possible.

Learning Outcomes

On satisfying the requirements of the Honours Program students will have developed skills in critical analysis, detailed knowledge of a special areas of English study and advanced written communication and research skills.

Indicative Assessment

In the first semester full time students will normally take two courses, in the second semester students will complete a sub-thesis of 12,000 - 15,000 words and take one course. Part time students typically spread this load across four semesters in consultation with the Honours convenor.

3 x 26 hours (seminar contact)

Thesis of 12,000 - 15,000 words.
