Course Description

Australia's Forests introduces students to the values and issues associated with Australia's native, plantation, farm and urban forests, and to relevant policy and management regimes. The course comprises field (5 days ) and classroom (4 days) components, delivered in the Winter Session from 8 July to 20 July 2012.

A quota may apply to admission to this course.

Note: Graduate students attend joint classes with undergraduates but are assessed separately.

Learning Outcomes

On satisfying the requirements of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

1. broadly explain the values and issues associated with forests, both historically and in contemporary Australia
2. assess how these diverse perspectives, values and issues relate to forest policy and management
3. communicate their knowledge in a variety of oral and written forms relevant to the policy arena.

  • Field course report (35%; LO 1, 2, 3)
  • Workshop preparation (10%; LO 1, 2)
  • Senate forest policy exercise - speech and media release (20%; LO 2, 3)
  • Topic review (35%; LO 1, 2, 3)

 Intensive program, with subsequent completion of assessment
