| Course Description |
With an emphasis on academic German, this course continues with the development of listening and reading comprehension skills and with the development of oral and written communication. Students will learn and practise how to write a university essay in German and how to give a class presentation with an academic content. The course introduces students to post-war German literature and engages students in the study of topical issues in contemporary German-speaking societies. The latter includes a research project on Switzerland. Furthermore, the course provides students with learning opportunities in the area of intercultural communication. |
| Learning Outcomes |
On successful completion, the student 1. can select an appropriate formulation from a broad range of language to express him/herself clearly, without having to restrict what he/she wants to say, Students will also have the opportunity to 6. develop some generic skills, e.g., critical thinking, written and oral communication, research, teamwork. |
| Indicative Assessment |
This course has continuous assessment to provide students with regular feedback on their learning progress. Proposed are: one in-class mid-semester tests (15%), one essay (20%), one research project (20%), one group project (10%), one oral examination (15%), and one final examination (20%). |

3.5 contact hours per week plus approximately 6.5 hours of regular work per week outside class. |
