Course Description

Syllabus:

  • Development of conversational skills in Hindi and Urdu;
  • Instruction in reading and writing the Devanagari script as used for Hindi;
  • explanation of the grammar of Hindi and Urdu;
  • reading of graded texts in the Hindi script;
  • original compositions in the Hindi script.

As Hindi and Urdu are identical in grammar and basic vocabulary, Hindi 1 A in-country provides foundational skills for those interested in learning Urdu.

 

Indicative Assessment
Continuous testing 40%, written assignments 50%, class participation 10%.  
Workload Hindi 1A: in-country is an intensive course with conversational focus taught in India three hours per day, five days a week for four weeks in June and July.
Course Classification(s) TransitionalTransitional courses are designed for students from a broad range of backgrounds and learning achievements, which provide for the acquisition of generic skills; or an informed understanding of contemporary issues; or fundamental knowledge for transition to Advanced or Specialist courses.
