| Course Description |
This course allows students enrolled in the Master of History (Research) to carry out advanced research on a historical subject of their choice and design. Students complete a dissertation of 20,000 (minimum) to 25,000 (maximum) words on a topic to be agreed with a supervisor, and formally approved by the School of History. |
| Learning Outcomes |
By the end of this course, you should be able to: 1. Carry out a literature search 2. Locate and interpret primary source materials 3. Design a research project 4. Contruct in prose a substantial interpretation of a historical topic 5. Relate a body of historical research to an existing scholarly literature |
| Indicative Assessment |
One dissertation of 20,000 (minimum) to 25,000 (maximum) words (100%) [assesses Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5] |
| Workload |
520 hours for the semester, including a minimum of 10 hours of face-to-face supervision or an equivalent level of contact via telephone, email and other forms of communication. |
| Requisite Statement |
Completion of the Master of History program with an average of 70% (or the equivalent at another institution). Supervision must be available for students to enrol into the Masters by Coursework (Research) Sub-Thesis course. Departmental consent required. |
