The transition from studying history to producing publishable historical research rests on the acquisition of professional skills as well as the deepening of intellectual engagement. This elective course will offer a suite of instructional programmes designed to facilitate this transition. 

After taking this course students will:

1. enhance and diversify the skills required to manage their research and to produce their theses

2. develop their capacity to engage productively and critically in scholarly discourse

3. develop a repertoire of capabilities that will enhance their employability in academic and professional positions.

This course will be graded on a pass-fail basis. To pass students must attend and participate in workshops or masterclasses and submit written assesments as detailed above.

Students will be expected to be thoroughly prepared in advance of classes and workshops and/or assume responsibility for leading discussion and responding to questions.

Admission into a higher degree research program in history or cognate subjects

Honours degree in history or equivalent.
