Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course students will be able to discuss a range of non-technical topics with a moderate degree of fluency, accuracy and range of language, write reasonably complex passages on non-technical topics with a fair degree of accuracy, and understand main ideas and much supporting detail in short authentic written texts with minimal vocabulary help. Students will also be able to argue effectively for a point of view in a short written essay on a non-technical topic.

 

Indicative Assessment

 Two oral exams (35% total), one 600 word essay (10%); two reading tests (20% total), two translation tests (15% total), two grammar tests (10% total), class participation (10%)

 

Workload Students can expect to spend approximately 10 hours a week on this course, inclusive of class contact.
