The course is intended to extend the language experience gained in second year, to give more confidence in communicating with the correct use of grammar and to consolidate fluency.

Students will be exposed to reading and translation materials organized into several topics which may vary from one day to the next. Topics may include current affairs, media, religion, ethnicity, gender, literature, performing arts, media, pop culture and others.

By the end of the course students will be able to converse in a way acceptable to a native speaker on a diverse range of subjects using appropriate idiomatic expressions and situated in a more complex cultural settings. They should also be able to read with significant accuracy and translate authentic materials such as newspaper articles from English into Indonesian and from Indonesian into English.

Assessment will be based on class participation and attendance (20%), presentations (30%), written examinations (20%), oral examinations (30%).  Graduate students attend joint classes with undergraduates but should expect a more rigorous assessment and additional assignment work. 

The course will be taught over a period of one month or approximately 70 contact hours at The Language Centre, Faculty of Language and Literature, Satya Wacana Christian University Salatiga, Indonesia. It is expected that the Summer Session course will be run in January and the Winter Session course in June and July.

Command of Indonesian equivalent to the standard reached at the end of Indonesian 2B.

INDN2003 Indonesian 2B or INDN2006 Indonesian 2B In-Country or equivalent or permission of coordinator after a placement test.

Placements will be subject to availability and security assessment.

a.) for WINTER courses: COB Friday of Teaching Week 8 in Semester 1

b.) for SUMMER session courses: COB Friday of Teaching Week 11 in Semester 2.
