Course Description

This unit gives students exposure to project management in an operational context. Students undertake a semester long project planning assignment. By the end of the course, students will be able to demonstrate their ability to plan the following aspects of project management: Project Scope Management, Project Time, Cost and Quality, Project Human Resource Management, Project Communications Management, Project Risk Management, and Project Procurement Management.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the requirements for this course, students will be able to:

  1. understand the role of project management and its importance for improving the success of IS development projects
  2. work together with others in a “project team”
  3. learn about important issues that surround the planning of projects
  4. demonstrate practical knowledge of project management techniques during the production of the elements of an IT Project:
  5. show competence in giving formal and informal oral presentations
  6. have an understanding of high quality project management practice and research

  • Seminar Participation (attendance expected)  5%

Workload

Students taking this course are expected to commit at least 12 hours a week to completing the work. This will include lectures, private study, course administration (i.e., Wattle) and group work.
