Course Description

The course is designed to perform a key role in the advanced training of translators. Foundations are laid for the development of the English-writing skills required in translation, and students are introduced to the concepts of comparative rhetoric.

Learning Outcomes

Abilities to comprehend and analyse an original text of substantial length and difficulty, and ultimately to produce a a translation work of quality, are developed, along with learning methods of solving various kinds of problems encountered in the course of translation.

Indicative Assessment

Two assignments (of 1500 words each) - 15% each

One wordbook presentation - 20%

Final wordbook compilation - 50%

Workload

Three contact hours per week plus several hours preparation.

Requisite Statement
Students should already have six Credit level grades in courses other than first year courses.
Students who are native speakers of English should have advanced level courses in a second language.
