Course Description

This course is designed to provide students undertaking the a Masters degree in the International Security Law stream with the opportunity to undertake a supervised research project in an area of international security law not previously studied in their program. The research project is designed to build upon previous foundational courses and allow students to explore the new and developing field of international security law under the supervision of a member of staff.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, students will:

  • have specialised knowledge and skills, especially with respect to research in the area of international security law;
  • have an advanced and integrated understanding of a complex body of knowledge in the area of international security law;
  • be able to analyse critically, reflect upon and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories as they apply in the area of international security law;
  • be able to apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, expert judgement, adaptability and responsibility as a learner.
Indicative Assessment

Completion of a 12,000 - 16,000 word research project.

Workload

It is expected that a student would need to spend approximately 20 hours a week on this project or equivalent time over the period.

Requisite Statement

Completion of 24 units (4 courses) from the list available in this stream.

Recommended Courses

Students will be assumed to have advanced learning skills in international security law, and in legal research and writing.

Consent Required Consent is required prior to enrolling in this course.
