Course Description Students will attend a series of didactic lectures that follow the ‘Australian Curriculum Framework for Junior Doctors' guidelines. This course will focus on practice-based learning within the workplace involving  the course co-ordinator and an academic mentor.  The course involves the use of evidence based medicine relevant to clinical practice and will provide relevant resources for self directed learning to take place within the workplace.
Learning Outcomes On satisfying the requirements of this course, students will demonstrate an advanced knowledge and conceptual understanding of clinical medicine including clinical management, communication and professionalism. The students will be able to demonstrate competencies in safe patient care, patient assessment, emergencies, patient management, common problems and conditions, skills and procedures, patient interaction, managing information, working in teams, doctor and society, professional behaviour and teaching and learning.
Indicative Assessment Five ‘Mid Term Formative Appraisals' and five' End of Term Summative Assessments' over a twelve month period, and a 2000 word self reflective journal/portfolio which identifies how the course has impacted on the students clinical practice. Satisfactory completion of the summative assessment is required by the ACT Medical Board for unconditional registration.
Workload Two hour of lectures per week.   

The course involves active learning. Students will be expected to attend the lectures and engage in discussion under the direction of an academic mentor. Contact hours with the course co-ordinator or mentor will be a minimum of two hours a week over a forty-eight week period.
