Course Description

A significant number of organisations perform an increasing proportion of their activities outside home countries, and are thus impacted - positively or negatively- by world affairs. But domestic organisations, i.e. the ones operating within a single national environment, -small or large, no matter in which sector- should not ignore the importance of world affairs, and must be well prepared to cope with a fast-changing environment. The course introduces students to techniques for interpreting the macro-enviroment such as scenario planning through a mixture of lecturers, case studies and practical exercises. The course also looks at the changing global pressures acting on organisations and how they impact on organisational and managerial processes.

The objective of this course is to prepare management graduates for monitoring global changes, interpreting their impact on the management of companies and to reflect in an insightful way on the implications of these changes for them as professionals and as individuals. Among other things, the course will provide particiapnts with a set of considerations that they will need to address if they are successfully to manage their futures in a fast-changing environment. It encourages them to explore the means by which they can manage uncertainty and ambiguity. The course starts from an assumption that the knowledge acquired in their formal management education program will date rapidly and it focuses on continuous learning, both as a means of compensating for the ageing of management knowledge and as a management tool in its own right. Ultimately, it provides a useful framework for integrating global, corporate and personal perspectives.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course students will be able to:
