| Course Description |
This course is aimed at students who already have a reasonable grasp of their instrument or voice. Performance develops each student's technical skill in their discipline, and challenges and extends their artistic understanding and creativity. Study of an instrument/voice is undertaken through group lessons, classes and performance activities, from which the student's technical and musical proficiency is assessed and developed and a range of repertoire of diverse styles and historical periods is explored. The following instruments will be available in group tuition format:

Precise details of assessment requirements and criteria vary according to the nature of the instrument/ voice and the needs of the student, but typically consist of: Mid-term 10 minute performance skills exam (individual) 20% [learning outcomes 1,2,3,] Final 10 minute performance skills exam (individual) 25% [learning outcomes 1,2,3,] Written Online Timed Exam 75 minutes (individual) 20% [learning outcomes 1,2,3,] Ensemble assessment (typically assessed ensemble performance and rehearsal journal individual) 25% [learning outcomes 1,2,3,] Research-led assignment (written critique/analysis of live or recorded performance 800 words individual) 10% [learning outcomes 4] A passing grade is required in both the written examination and performance components. |
