Building on skills developed in MUSI2205 Creative & Prof Music Proj 1, this course will enable students to undertake a project that uses creative practice -composition, performance, education, multimedia or other formats - to investigate a question of musical research. The project may be group-based or individual. Examples include: composition and performance of a music theatre work; research, rehearsal and performance of an historically-informed early music festival; development and trialling of teaching practice and materials; or participant-observer project with practising music specialist.

After completing this course you will be able to:

1. work independently and collaboratively in response to authentic project demands in one or more creative or professional music roles
2. demonstrate creative, practical and research skills that can be applied to a range of professional environments within the broad music industry
3. enhance your professional practice portfolio with a range of applied creative and professional music skills and experience
4. work independently and in groups to meet authentic deadlines and expectations
5. demonstrate growing independence and professionalism as a creative practitioner
6. recognise and represent to others your creative and professional skills and experience

Assessment will include:

• a practice/research journal of the project [learning outcome 6] and
• one or more creative/professional applied research outcomes that are developed specifically to fit each project. The agreed criteria weighting will be documented in an individual learning contract and will be the basis, with the journal, of the final assessment of the project. Criteria reflect the expectation of students’ emerging independence and professionalism compared to MUSM2205 Creative & Prof Music Project 1 [learning outcomes 1-5]

INDIVIDUAL LEARNING CONTRACT EXAMPLE 1:

1. Reflective journal (1500 words) 30%
2. Composition of four songs for a music theatre work (40%)
3. Performance in the work of a solo role (30%)

INDIVIDUAL LEARNING CONTRACT EXAMPLE 2:

1. Reflective journal (1500 words) (30%)
2. Preparation of a historically-informed performing edition of a trio sonata (40%)
3. Performance in the trio sonata in concert or on tour (30%)

INDIVIDUAL LEARNING CONTRACT EXAMPLE 3:

1. Reflective journal (1500 words) (30%)
2. Development of a series of lessons plans for a particular learning environment (30%).
3. Participation as participant/observer and qualitative analysis of one case, or group of cases within the target group (40%).

The course will require the equivalent of 130 hours of student time.  Total supervised/contact time will not normally exceed 35 hours, however students may be expected to be working for up to 105 hours in an authentic/workplace environment.
