The purpose of this course is to introduce students to a varied and broad range of practical components which will complement their educational experience and pathway while providing a general knowledge in a broad range of specific topic areas.

Students will undertake practical studies, in a class situation, which are chosen from a rotating list, subject to need and availability. (These may, but will not necessarily include, Guitar Ensemble Workshop, Keyboard Laboratory, Harp Ensemble, Percussion Workshop and Choral Skills Workshop).

Through weekly class participation, students will gain skills that augment the development of the their musical, social, organisational and critical skills, and provide experience in a range of potential fields of professional and community based musical activity.

Attendance required at 85% of classes for successful completion.

In-class ensemble skills and preparation of designated practical components. (40%)

Flexible and as deemed appropriate by relevant lecturer, but will be based around the demonstration of agreed competencies within each practical topic. These competencies will be clearly laid out in the course outline provided by the lecturer. (60%)  

All assessment criteria and documentation to be handed out at the beginning of semester by relevant lecturer.

The delivery of the course will be through a weekly workshop of 1.5 hours; this workshop will be a blended model of practical training, critical listening sessions and theoretical presentations.
