| Course Description |
This course covers a further understanding of the so-called ‘Bebop Revolution' through the investigation of the contribution of its dominant figures. Students will also have an awareness of the movement towards the ‘Hard Bop' style through listening to originators of the style. Students will have an understanding of the impact of the avant-garde movement in Jazz and how influences of popular music reshaped the entire Jazz idiom. There will be an awareness of the electric explorations of Miles Davis from the late 1960's to 1991. Students will also have gained knowledge of the ‘Neo Classicist' Jazz revival in the 1980's and be aware of what is currently being played in Jazz. Because of the listening content in all the history courses, students will be better informed in making idiomatically relevant choices in their performance. |
