| Course Description | This course explores questions such as: What is ‘politics', and how does (and should) it relate to other kinds of social or economic activity in the Pacific Islands region? Why does it seem controversial, and how can it be studied? Through an investigation of central themes involving states, societies and economies; big men, chiefs and politicians; conflict and solidarity; good governance and corruption; constitutional engineering; regionalism; and intervention, we ask what roles ideas, governments, other national leaders, and external powers have in the shaping of politics in the Pacific region. The implications of both research and consultancy work in these areas is also engaged. |
