Course Description

This course is intended for students specialising in photonics. It provides opportunities for students to experience an industrial working environment. It exposes the students to the workplace providing a link between the academic course work, the laboratory courses and the challenges in the photonics industry. It puts the coursework into perspective and allows contacts with potential employers.

Learning Outcomes

In this course students will:

1. Experience hands-on work with a commercial company operating in the general area of fibre optics.

2. Develop advanced commercial laboratory and report writing skills.

Indicative Assessment

Essay 60%, Laboratory report 40%

Workload

A total of 50 hours

Course Classification(s) AdvancedAdvanced courses are designed for students having reached 'first degree' level of assumed knowledge, which provide a deep understanding of contemporary issues; or 'second degree' and higher levels of knowledge; or for transition to research training programs.
Requisite Statement

Third year Physics or Electrical/Electronics Engineering is required.
