| Course Description |
This course is a practical introduction to the Spanish language. Based on a communicative and culture-based approach, this course is designed to develop basic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in the Spanish language. Students are introduced to grammatical and syntactic structures, and training in language learning strategies is provided. The student acquires the language largely through simulated real-life situations in the classroom as well as in the laboratory. Throughout the semester, cultural aspects of the Hispanic world are introduced through the language classes. |
| Learning Outcomes |
On successful completion, students will have a basic understanding of spoken Spanish at beginner level as well as of the audiovisual material that accompanies the course. Students' speaking skills in Spanish include the ability to ask questions about a range of topics and sustain basic conversations. They will be able to read, comprehend and write short texts about customs and culture in Hispanic countries. |
| Indicative Assessment |
7 mini test (5% each, total 35%), 1 in-class essay (150-170 words, 15%), 2 written tests (15% each, total 30%), 1 oral exam (15%), performance and participation in class (5%). |
