Course Description The course will cover Turkish alphabet, spelling and pronunciation as well as vowel harmony. No direct emphasis will be put on grammar, but the use of simple verb tense and other grammatical features will be introduced within sentences. The course will include simple and comprehensive reading passages
Learning Outcomes

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Students at the end of this course will be able to write fairly simple short sentences in present, past and future tenses and read passages of moderate length.

GENERIC SKILLS

This course aims to cover the Turkish alphabet, spelling and pronunciation as well as vowel harmony. No direct emphasis will be put on teaching grammar, but the use of simple verb tenses in present, past and future as well as other grammatical features will be introduced with sentences. The course will include simple and comprehensive reading passages.

And also aims:

  • To further develop students' understanding of Turkish language and culture through reading passages in the prescribed text book.
  • To develop students Turkish language skills (spelling, pronunciation vowel harmony as well as the use of verbs with gerunds in present, past and future tenses.)
  • To enable students to read very simple comprehensive passages in Turkish and construct simple sentences.

Attendance (10%)

Class participation (10%)

Fortnightly assignments (30%)

Final examination (including oral component) (50%).

Students are required to attend language laboratory sessions and listen to the recordings on the WebCT (one hour a week) and hand in their Work Book for correction.
