| Course Description |
This course provides students with the opportunity to learn to read Hindi/Urdu in the Urdu script. The course is conducted as far as possible in Hindi/Urdu and is a part of the Hindi major. Syllabus: (a) Instruction in reading and writing the Urdu script; (b) development of advanced conversational skills in Hindi/Urdu[1]; (c) advanced discussion of Urdu grammatical usage and literary style; (d) comprehension of lectures given in Hindi/Urdu; (e) reading of Urdu prose. [1]While Hindi and Urdu may be considered different languages at the literary-formal register, they are more or less the same language, Hindi/Urdu, at the colloquial spoken level. |
| Learning Outcomes |
On satisfying the requirement for this course, students will have the knowledge and skills necessary to speak, read and write the language at the level appropriate for the course. |

2 semester tests 40%, written assignments 50% and oral assessment 10%. |
