The Bachelor of Pacific Studies combines an interdisciplinary Pacific Studies major with the in-depth study of disciplines and languages relevant to the understanding of complex issues in contemporary Oceania. Students have the choice of combining their Pacific Studies major with approved disciplinary majors and minors, approved language majors and minors, or a combination of language and disciplinary minors.

The Pacific Studies major itself employs an interdisciplinary framework to explore important historical and contemporary issues in Oceania, and to critically examine the ways in which knowledge about the region, and the region itself, have been framed, constructed and represented. It provides students with a deep understanding of the cultural, social, geographic and political diversity of Oceania, and the richness of perspectives on it, with a particular emphasis on indigenous epistemologies and voices. Students emerge with a strong sense of a very large and diverse, yet deeply connected region.

The degree may be augmented by one year study abroad in the Graduate Diploma in Asia-Pacific Studies Program.

Admission Requirements

Admission to all programs is on a competitive basis, taking into account all relevant academic qualifications. If you hold more than one qualification, admission will be based on your overall record. Tertiary qualifications are generally weighted more heavily than secondary. If you have completed an approved tertiary preparation course or alternative entry scheme, you will be assessed on the results of that scheme alone, unless you have undertaken subsequent study.

The table below is a guide to the entry level required for domestic applicants. Exact entry level will be set at time of offer.
