The BSc (Forest Sciences) offers students with interests in forest sciences, forest management and forestry a focused pathway to undergraduate and subsequent professional graduate qualifications in this important topic area. The three-year program is built around (1) a core of courses that develop knowledge and skills about the relationships between society and environment, with a particular emphasis on forests, and (2) completion of the equivalent of a major in forest sciences.

Elective courses comprise one third of the total, allowing students to pursue individual interests. The program emphasizes experiential, field and problem-based learning, and the development of active learning and communication skills. Students seeking to gain direct entry to the ANU Master of Forestry degree are required to complete research methods courses and an independent research project on a forest-related topic, and to achieve a minimum entry level standard. Field-based learning and research projects are frequently undertaken in conjunction with forest sector businesses, management and research agencies, and community-based and non-governmental organisations.

The Bachelor of Science (Forest Sciences) with honours requires the completion of a further year of 48 units of honours research.
