Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours)
Where there is mention of Science courses, majors, minors and specialisations this refers to courses, majors, minors and specialisations that are offered or approved by the ANU College of Medicine, Biology and Environment and the ANU College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (see approved lists).
This program requires the completion of 192 units, of which:
A minimum of 36 units must come from the completion of Advanced Studies. Advanced Studies consist of individually tailored courses specifically designed to provide students with a strong base in research. Advanced Studies are available in two formats: courses that are inherently taught at a higher level and are entirely research focussed (Advanced Studies Courses, ASC); or in the form of an extension, assessed at a higher level, attached to a regular course (Advanced Studies Extension, ASE). Students must seek approval from the program and course conveners in order to enrol in Advanced Studies.
48 units must come from the completion of an Honours research project with first class honours. In order to be eligible for admission into Honours, students must meet the admission requirements of the relevant Honours discipline.
To qualify for the degree the Honours year must be completed with first class honours.
The 192 units must include:
144 units from the completion of 1000, 2000 and 3000 level courses chosen with the approval of the Science program convener, of which:
- A minimum of 36 units of courses must come from the completion of Advanced Studies, including:
A minimum of 18 units from the completion of Advanced Studies Courses (ASC) from the following list:

Students enrolled in the PhB(Hons) program must maintain an average of 80% in Science courses each semester to remain in this program. Students who do not maintain 80% will be transferred to an appropriate Science degree but will still be allowed to compete for places in Honours.
