The course consists of weekly projects, which introduce students to a range of skills and conceptual issues relevant to all visual arts disciplines. It provides a foundation for future specialised work. The course introduces students to the application of two-dimensional and three-dimensional representation, dealing with issues such as the human form, the dynamics of colour, design, composition and pictorial space.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Show understanding of basic processes and material properties relevant to the discipline
2. Apply a range of introductory technical skills
3. Demonstrate creative exploration of materials and processes
4. Demonstrate observation and analytical skills in areas such as 2D and 3D form, colour, anatomical study and composition
