Course Description

This course introduces students to skills, techniques and processes of Assemblage as a sculptural convention. Students will develop works that explore the formal properties of assembled objects through a focused theme-based project. There will be limits to the scale of works which can be made and the palette of materials and processes that can be investigated due to time constraints and staff availability. Conceptual and thematic issues are addressed and occupational health and safety instruction is included.

Note: Places in this course are limited. Students are advised to enrol as early as possible

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:  

  1. Consolidate technical skills and use of equipment and technologies
  2. Demonstrate creative exploration of materials
  3. Apply concepts to the development of works of art
  4. Show awareness of historical and theoretical contexts relevant to the course
Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work and visual journal (80%) [LOs 1 – 4]

Journal (20%). [LOs 1 – 4]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

Workload

4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice and other research.
