Course Description

In this course, students develop, in consultation with their lecturer, an individual studio-based project in the painting medium of their choice.  Conceptual and thematic issues are addressed individually and in group discussion and critique. Occupational health and safety instruction is included.

Note: Places in this course are limited. Students are advised to enrol as early as possible.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify and develop personal areas of research
  2. Demonstrate increased level of skills in techniques and processes, use of specific equipment, tools and technologies
  3. Demonstrate understanding of the importance of critical and self-reflective practice
  4. Show increased awareness of historical and theoretical contexts relevant to the course
Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [LOs 1 – 4]

Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%). [LOs 1 – 4]

Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

Workload

4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice and other research.

ARTV2511 Painting: Concepts, Materials, Processes 1 or ARTV2512 Painting: Concepts, Materials, Processes 2
